ACUPUNCTURE CAN HELP
How?
Current research does demonstrate that acupuncture can have an effect on most of the body’s systems. By inserting fine, sterile, disposable needles through the skin at selected points (often being left in only briefly) the nerves in skin, muscle and other tissues are stimulated, producing a known variety of effects
- the release of the body’s natural painkillers, such as endorphins and serotonin, is increased in pathways of both the brain and spinal cord, which will modify the way the brain receives pain signals.
- Other systems of the body are also known to respond beneficially to acupuncture (the nervous, respiratory, digestive, circulatory systems) and effects are noted by changes in muscle tone, hormone production and allergic responses.
- It is known to have a beneficial effect on the general wellbeing of patients.
Each patient’s case is individual.
I offer an initial consultation to take a full history and examination as required and consented for, to discuss the diagnosis and advise about a plan with the first treatment. I am still keen for your doctor or specialist to know that you are having acupuncture to ensure all relevant tests have been carried out or other treatments are continuing if advised and appropriate.
What may I expect?
A professional, trustworthy and confidential approach at all times.
Acupuncture can be potent and despite the fact that it IS generally safer than most other conventional treatments, it should be used with respect and care. It should only ever be used by trained practitioners who are equipped to assess the risks and benefits of applying acupuncture.
Those who have experienced acupuncture will describe the sensation as warm, tingling or “aching” (de chi) when the needles are inserted or in place. It is not painful. It can be used if you wish to remain fully clothed or fresh towels are used to cover any exposed areas of the body.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss how acupuncture can help you.
